Born in Scotland, Gillean, a London photographer, moved to Canada where he established Oasis, an art, design and photography partnership that quickly became one of the leading visual design studios in North America. Many awards for his photography followed including a Gold at the National Magazine Awards, Communication Arts in Los Angeles and The One Show in New York.

In 1984 Gillean shifted to commercial film direction. His first film won a Lion at that year’s Cannes International Film Festival immediately placing him in the top ranks of director/cinematographers.

Now living on Saltspring Island, BC, Canada, Gillean continues to work in the field of film and photography. He is best known for his bold, stylish and beautifully lit images.
