A native of St. Catharines, Ontario I first developed my love of photography in high school, later becoming a photographer and editor of my University newspaper. In 1990 I completed a Certificate in Professional Photography at Ampro Photo Workshops, and subsequently became an instructor there for 12 years. I am currently a sessional instructor at the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria.
Even while operating my commercial studio in Vancouver, I made time to pursue my fine art career; taking photographs of people in their environment and creating landscape images. I am currently focusing on Polaroid SX-70 manipulations while my supply of this now discontinued film lasts.
The SX-70 manipulation process creates an original print. And while reproductions can be made from these original prints, they will not possess the depth and texture of the originals. I like this aspect of the Polaroid materials – that they create an original image.
In 2004 my wife and I opened Galleons Lap Gallery – Atelier on Saltspring to showcase fine-art photography, as well as my own work. Galleons Lap is one of select few photography gallerys west of Winnipeg.
